Boymont Castle

Boymont Castle stands on a high rocky ridge with rectangular structures, straight walls, and large arched windows that catch the light throughout the day. A preserved chapel inside reveals the religious function of this medieval residential complex.

The castle was built between 1220 and 1230 under the authority of the Counts of Appiano, who then granted it to the Boymont and Korb families as a feudal residence. This founding period established it as a noble seat in the region.

The castle served as a shared residence for multiple noble families during the Middle Ages, each with their own living quarters within the same walls. This arrangement shows how different families managed to coexist in a single fortress community.

A restaurant operates within the courtyard, giving visitors a place to eat while taking in the surroundings. The site is accessible from Easter through early November, allowing plenty of time to explore the grounds and structures.

Archaeological findings near the castle, including a bronze brooch, point to human settlements dating back to the Iron Age. These discoveries reveal that people lived in this area long before the medieval fortress was built.
