Temple of Jupiter Feretrius, Ancient Roman temple in Rome
The Temple of Jupiter Feretrius was the first temple ever built in Rome.
Founded by Romulus, it's where victorious generals dedicated spoils of war.
It housed the spolia opima, the most prestigious military trophies.
Though the temple's exact location is still debated, remains can be seen near Palatine Hill.
The temple's very name, Feretrius, is believed to derive from the Latin word to strike.
