Monte Corno, Mountain summit in Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy
Monte Corno is a mountain in the Trentino-Alto Adige region standing at approximately 1,780 meters between the Val di Fiemme valley and Trodena. Its slopes are covered in thick forests and crossed by several hiking routes.
The mountain first appeared in records around 1415 as Trudner perg and acquired different names reflecting the region's linguistic and cultural changes over time. The naming history shows how this area shifted between different influences across the centuries.
The mountain forms part of South Tyrol's nature park system, connecting Italian and German-speaking regions through its dual naming as Monte Corno and Trudner Horn.
Hikers can follow multiple trails starting from nearby villages like Trodena or the Salorno area to explore the mountain and surroundings. A mountain hut at around 1,710 meters serves as a good reference point for orientation and rest stops along the routes.
In 2009, researchers discovered a new dragonfly species, aeshna subarctica, adding to the mountain's scientific importance.
