Monte Vitalba, Mountain summit in Chianni, Italy
Monte Vitalba is a mountain peak in Tuscany reaching 674 meters in height and forming part of the Colline Pisane range. Its slopes support agricultural land and its summit holds seven wind turbines that spin visibly above the surrounding countryside.
The mountain location was chosen for a major renewable energy project that began operating in 2006 with seven Vestas V52 turbines installed at the summit. This development transformed the peak into a hub for wind power generation in the region.
This peak is woven into the fabric of local farming life, where traditional cultivation methods shape how people work the land. The terraced fields and pastoral landscape reflect the connection between residents and their surroundings.
Marked hiking trails lead to the summit starting from the town of Chianni, making the route straightforward to follow. Parking is available at the trailheads where visitors can leave their vehicles before starting the hike.
From various points along the trails, visitors glimpse the Lago di Santa Luce and the coastline spreading across the horizon beyond the agricultural fields. The wind turbines themselves create a striking contrast with the rural landscape below.
