Santuario dei Piloni

The Santuario dei Piloni contains a Romanesque stone church with two ancient Roman marble faces embedded in its late-Romanesque facade and thirteenth-century brick decorations on lateral walls.

The Church of Saints James and Philip Minor, documented since the 1400s, stands on a former pagan site dedicated to the goddess of hunting in an area called Valdiana.

Fifteen chapels line a path through pine woods, each housing large statues depicting the Stations of the Cross, ending at the Holy Sepulcher containing a 17th-century sculptural group.

The sanctuary connects to a 6-kilometer circular religious trail starting from downtown Montà, with detailed maps and audio guides available at the Ecomuseo delle Rocche del Roero.

The sanctuary stands as the smallest Sacred Mount in Piedmont, combining religious architecture with natural elements on a hill ridge surrounded by chestnut trees and Scots pines.
