Santuario della Celletta

The Santuario della Celletta is a chapel with an elliptical floor plan situated along the Via Nazionale that connects Argenta to Ravenna. Its interior is defined by a marble altar and displays religious architecture from the early 1600s.

This sanctuary was built after 1606 following a reported Marian apparition to Sigismonda Conti and her husband's unexplained recovery. Its construction reflected a period of intense religious devotion in the Argenta region.

The sanctuary displays a fresco by Garofalo showing Mary with Child, now housed in the Civic Museum of Argenta. This artwork attracts visitors interested in Renaissance religious depictions and their role in local devotion.

The sanctuary is located at Via Nazionale 149 and can be visited during regular hours. Keep in mind that this is an active religious site where ceremonies sometimes take place.

During the earthquake of 1624 that struck Argenta, this sanctuary remained unharmed, which locals interpreted as a sign of divine protection. This event led to the establishment of an annual pilgrimage on March 19.
