The Santuario della Madonna del Boden stands at 475 meters above sea level on a plateau encircled by chestnut woods in northern Italy.
Construction of the sanctuary started in 1530 during the Counter-Reformation period, following reports of a miraculous event involving a shepherdess named Maria Della Torre.
The sanctuary houses 1,147 ex-votos in two adjacent rooms, with 40 percent of these religious offerings dating from before the 20th century.
Visitors can attend Roman Catholic masses from November 24 to December 24, with regular Sunday services taking place at 9:15 in the morning.
The original structure measured 14 meters in length and 8 meters in width, receiving authorization from Bishop Acimboldo of Novara for mass celebrations.
