Chihiro Art Museum Tokyo, Picture book museum in Shimo-Shakujii, Japan
This specialized museum displays illustrations and original artwork from children's books, maintaining an extensive collection of Japanese and international picture book art.
The museum opened its doors in September 1977 as the first institution dedicated to picture book art, following the establishment of the Chihiro Iwasaki Memorial Foundation.
The museum collection includes 27,200 artworks from 207 artists representing 34 countries, demonstrating the global development of picture book illustrations.
Visitors can explore the museum galleries from Tuesday through Sunday between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM, with exhibitions rotating throughout the year.
The museum building, designed by architect Hiroshi Naito, stands on the exact location where artist Chihiro Iwasaki lived and created her renowned illustrations.
