Ogasawara-Hakushaku-Tei, Historic mansion restaurant in Kawadachō, Japan

Ogasawara-Hakushaku-Tei stands in a white colonial building with large windows and a symmetrical facade in Kawadachō, a historic neighborhood in central Tokyo. The rooms inside show wood paneling, high ceilings, and furniture from the time when the building served as the residence of an aristocratic family.

Architects Sone Tatsuzō and Chūjō Seiichirō designed the mansion in 1927 for the aristocratic Ogasawara family. The structure represents the Western building forms that Japanese architects began to adopt after World War I.

The name means count's residence and refers to the Ogasawara family who once lived here. Today guests can dine in rooms that preserve the atmosphere of a private aristocratic home from the early twentieth century.

Reservations open at the beginning of each month for the following period, with lunch served from 11:30 to 15:00 and dinner from 18:00 to 22:00. The separate dining rooms offer privacy, but booking in advance is necessary because space is limited.

The restaurant specializes in dishes made with Iberico Bellota pork, a Spanish delicacy served in a protected Japanese historic setting. The combination of European ingredient and Tokyo heritage protection makes this place unusual for visitors who want to experience both culinary worlds.
