Yamano Kyo

Yamano Kyo is a canyon within the Oda River system marked by sheer rock walls that frame several waterfalls, including Ryuzu no Taki and Yondan no Taki. The landscape displays dramatic cliff formations that rise above deep gorges.

The canyon was created over millions of years as the Oda River gradually carved through rock formations. This natural erosion shaped the landscape that exists today in northern Fukuyama.

Local residents maintain traditional practices of environmental stewardship, preserving the canyon's natural state while sharing their knowledge with younger generations.

Multiple hiking trails wind through the canyon leading to viewing areas at different levels. Basic hiking gear and plenty of water are advisable, especially during warmer months.

Hydroelectric facilities harness the river's power for electricity, representing a long-standing balance between energy use and nature conservation. This infrastructure integration into the natural setting becomes visible at several points along the trails.
