Obitoke-dera, Buddhist temple in Nara, Japan
The main hall of Obitoke-dera contains dedicated spaces for pregnancy-related ceremonies and houses a collection of traditional prayer artifacts and amulets.
Founded in 858 during the Heian Period, Obitoke-dera received recognition when Empress Fujiwara Akiko visited to pray for a safe childbirth.
The temple maintains strong connections with Japanese imperial traditions, evidenced by Empress Michiko's visits and contributions to pregnancy-related ceremonies.
Located five minutes from JR Obitoke Station, the temple operates daily from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM with admission fees of 400 yen for adults.
The temple shop sells specialized dog-shaped amulets for easy labor, based on the Japanese belief that dogs represent successful deliveries.
