Asahi Bridge

The Asahi Bridge extends across the Ishikari River, combining both cantilever and tied-arch engineering designs to create a robust transportation structure in Hokkaido.

Completed in 1904 under the direction of architect Taroichi Yoshimachi, the Asahi Bridge marked an important development in Japanese infrastructure during the early twentieth century.

The bridge holds a place among the Eight Views of Asahikawa and the 100 Bridges of Japan, representing the engineering achievements of the Meiji period.

Located at coordinates 43.778333, 142.36, the bridge carries Japan National Route 40 and remains open throughout the year for vehicle and pedestrian access.

The Asahi Bridge received recognition from both the Hokkaido Heritage designation and the Japan Society of Civil Engineers for its structural characteristics.
