明星院, Buddhist temple in Gotō, Japan.
Myōjō-in Temple occupies a central position in Gotō City, featuring a main hall constructed with twenty cypress wood pillars and ceiling paintings.
The present main hall was constructed in 1778 under the direction of the 28th feudal lord of Gotō, making it the oldest wooden structure in the region.
The temple serves as the first stop among the 88 sacred places of Gotō and received recognition as part of Japan's national heritage sites.
The temple opens from 9:00 to 17:00, except on Mondays, the first and twenty-eighth day of each month, with free admission and parking facilities.
The ceiling of the main hall contains 121 paintings depicting birds and flowers, attributed to artists of the Kano school of painting.
