Kanazawa Zoo

Kanazawa Zoo is a zoo in Kanazawa Natural Park in Yokohama that spreads across a large area with multiple animal sections. The facility organizes animals into four zones based on their home continents: America, Eurasia, Oceania, and Africa.

Construction of the zoo started in 1982 and it officially opened in 1988 under the management of Yokohama city authorities. The grounds were developed on an area that had previously served other purposes in the region.

The facility takes its name from the neighboring Kanazawa Natural Park and reflects the importance of the surrounding green space to the community. You will notice how families use the open areas throughout the day, moving between animal encounters and nature experiences.

The grounds are walkable and well-marked to help you find the different animal zones. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and prepare for changing weather, as there are many open areas throughout the site.

The grounds feature a 100-meter slide tower and barbecue areas where visitors can relax and eat. Finding such recreational elements combined with animal viewing in one location is uncommon.
