The Kurume City Art Museum is an art museum in Kurume, Fukuoka Prefecture, located within the Ishibashi Cultural Center complex. The collection features works by regional and local artists displayed in contemporary spaces.
The museum opened in 2016 as a successor to the Ishibashi Museum of Art, commemorating the sixtieth anniversary of the Ishibashi Cultural Center. This transition marked a new chapter in preserving regional art history.
The museum displays works by artists from Kurume and the broader Kyushu region. Visitors get to know the local art scene and the paintings that have shaped the area's creative identity.
The museum is roughly 17 minutes on foot from Nishitetsu Kurume Station or Minami Kurume Station, making it easy to reach. The location is central and convenient for planning a visit without the need for additional transportation.
The museum houses the relocated studio of painter Sakamoto Hanjiro, an artist known for his yoga painting style. The studio was brought here in 1980 from its original location in Yame, preserving an important artistic legacy.
