Mount Takasaki

Mount Takasaki is a volcanic hill in Oita Prefecture with steep slopes and dense vegetation that characterizes the eastern coast of Kyushu island. It rises roughly 630 meters above sea level, offering views of the surrounding landscape from the top.

The volcanic formation of the mountain goes back millions of years and shaped the geological landscape of Oita Prefecture. The area developed its distinctive character through these ancient volcanic processes.

The mountain is home to the Takasakiyama Natural Zoo, where visitors can watch Japanese macaques living in their natural setting. The animals here are relatively unafraid of people, making close observation possible.

Hiking trails of varying difficulty lead to the summit with clear markings and rest areas positioned along the routes. The site is accessible year-round, though conditions vary depending on the season and weather.

The mountain sits near Beppu Bay, allowing hikers to experience both coastal views and volcanic terrain on a single trip. This location makes it an unusual place to combine two very different landscapes.
