Jakushō-ji, Buddhist temple in Tendo, Japan.
Jakushō-ji is a Buddhist temple in Tendo with multiple buildings spread across its grounds, including a main hall housing a Kannon statue. The complex also features smaller shrines dedicated to different deities and contains the nationally recognized Wakamatsu Kannon-do structure.
The temple was founded over 1,300 years ago by Buddhist monk Gyoki. A popular saying at the time linked it with other sacred sites and established its reputation as an important spiritual center.
The temple hosts monthly prayer festivals from April through December where visitors write wishes on wooden plaques. These gatherings show how the place remains part of local spiritual life today.
The temple is located in the Yamamoto area of Tendo and can be reached by foot or car. Visitors should note that certain areas may have varying access depending on festivals and seasonal activities.
Every twelve years during the year of the rat, the sacred Kannon statue is displayed here, an opportunity that happens rarely. This makes the temple a special destination for pilgrims in these cyclical years.
