Cannabis Museum, Cannabis education center in Nasu, Japan
The Cannabis Museum operates from a log house in Tochigi Prefecture, housing exhibits about hemp cultivation techniques and historical objects related to the plant. The collection covers tools and items that show how hemp was used across different aspects of Japanese life.
The facility was established in December 2001 as Japan's first museum dedicated to hemp education. Its creation came from efforts to document and revive interest in traditional cultivation practices that had declined over time.
The museum displays woodblock prints showing women processing hemp fibers, revealing how this plant was central to traditional Japanese textile crafts and daily life.
The site is best reached via the Nasu interchange on the Tohoku Expressway or by bus from Kuroiso Station. Since the area is rural, having your own transport makes it easier to also visit nearby hemp fields in the region.
The museum maintains a working loom where visitors can watch and learn about hemp weaving techniques in action. Guided tours to nearby legal hemp farms are also available for those wanting to see cultivation firsthand.
