ナセBA, Cultural complex in Yonezawa, Japan.
ナセBA is a five-story building in Yonezawa housing a public library on the second floor and an art gallery on the ground level. The exterior features specially processed thinned wood from local city forests.
Construction began in September 2013 on a former commercial building site, with the facility opening in July 2016. The location was transformed to create a new community center for the city.
The name reflects a historical phrase of Lord Uesugi Harunori combined with BA, representing both books and art in this community space. Visitors can see this dual purpose reflected in how the building brings together literature and creative works.
The building is easily accessible, with its wood exterior providing excellent insulation during cold winter months. The interior layout clearly separates the library and gallery areas for convenient navigation.
The building uses wood from Yonezawa's city forests, creating a direct connection between nature and the cultural space. This material choice demonstrates the facility's relationship with its local surroundings.
