Yubarisyuparo Dam, Gravity dam in Hokkaido, Japan
Yubarisyuparo Dam is a concrete gravity dam in Hokkaido that spans 390 meters and rises approximately 110 meters above the river valley. The structure holds water for electricity generation, irrigation, and flood management across the region.
Construction began in 1991 and took more than two decades to complete this major infrastructure project. When finished, the dam significantly improved water management and flood protection capabilities for northern Hokkaido.
The dam's reservoir provides recreational spaces for local residents who engage in fishing activities throughout different seasons of the year.
The site offers viewpoints where visitors can observe the water levels and surrounding landscape from different angles. The best views are typically from designated observation platforms around the structure.
The dam's catchment area spans 433 square kilometers, creating a water impoundment zone of 1500 hectares when operating at full capacity.
