Rokuya Great Buddha, Bronze Buddha statue in Hinode, Japan
The Rokuya Great Buddha stands 12 meters tall on a three-meter pedestal, making it the second largest Buddha statue in Japan at a total height of 15 meters.
The construction of this bronze sculpture commenced in 2013 and required five years to complete, with the final inauguration taking place on February 9, 2018.
The statue represents Shakyamuni Tathagata and continues the Japanese tradition of creating large Buddha statues, known as daibutsu, for spiritual and community purposes.
Visitors can reach the statue by taking the JR Chuo Line to Tachikawa Station, transferring to the JR Itsukaichi Line to Musashi-Hikida Station, followed by a 30-minute walk.
The statue was constructed 350 kilometers away in Yamagata City and transported in multiple pieces to Hinode for final assembly, requiring precise engineering and coordination.
