Statue of Unicorn Gundam

Statue of Unicorn Gundam, Robotic statue at DiverCity Tokyo Plaza, Japan

The Statue of Unicorn Gundam is a nearly 20-meter metal sculpture in front of DiverCity Tokyo Plaza in Aomi that depicts an armed figure from an animation series. The white and blue surface is equipped with movable plates, joints, and glowing parts that change color during performances.

The figure was erected in September 2017 and replaced an earlier robot sculpture that stood at the same location for seven years. The choice fell on this newer model from the animation series to revitalize the shopping center and surrounding waterfront area.

The name Unicorn refers to the single horn on the figure's head, drawn from a Japanese animation series in which this machine plays a central role. Visitors often see fans taking photos and buying merchandise while viewing the metal construction from different angles.

The sculpture stands on an open plaza in front of the shopping center and is accessible from outside at any time, even when the shops are closed. Transformation shows take place four times during daytime and every 30 minutes after dark, with light and music accompanying the mechanical movements.

The metal plates on the figure's body open during transformation and reveal pink glowing parts inside that are clearly visible in the dark. This movement takes several minutes and is accompanied by sound effects from the television series broadcast through speakers on the plaza.
