Kangdong Residence

Kangdong Residence is a sprawling government compound in Kangdong County composed of multiple buildings, artificial lakes, and landscaped gardens within a secured perimeter. The estate encompasses a large area and sits near the Taedong River.

The compound was constructed during the 1980s and expanded during the following decade to serve additional functions. These developments reflected planning priorities of that leadership era.

The residence reflects North Korean leadership protocols, serving as a private retreat where leaders engage with selected high-ranking officials.

The site is protected by security barriers and guarded checkpoints and is not open to the public. Visitors can view the grounds from outside, but entry is restricted to authorized personnel only.

The estate houses specialized facilities including horse stables, a racing track, bowling lanes, and a dedicated railway station. These amenities demonstrate the comprehensive infrastructure built into the compound.
