Vaitiekūnų tvenkinys, reservoir in Lithuania
Vaitiekūnų tvenkinys is an artificial reservoir in the Radviliškis district in central Lithuania, created by damming the Šušvė River in 1979. It stretches more than seven kilometers from north to south and is fed by several tributaries including the Verdeikė and Sarvė streams. The water serves primarily for irrigation and agricultural use, supporting nearby farming communities and reaching a maximum depth of about eleven meters.
The reservoir was created in 1979 when the Šušvė River was dammed, transforming the area into an important water storage facility for regional agriculture. A small hydroelectric power station was added in 2001 with a capacity of about 370 kilowatts, continuing to generate electricity for local residents and farming operations in the surrounding area.
The reservoir is easiest to reach by car from nearby towns, with simple roads and open paths that welcome visitors throughout the year. There are basic benches and walking trails along the shore for comfortable visits, though no major facilities are available on site.
The reservoir houses a small hydroelectric power station that has generated electricity since 2001 with a capacity of about 370 kilowatts. This makes it a rare combination of irrigation storage and energy production facility within an otherwise quiet agricultural landscape.
