Jaunauce Manor, Manor house in Jaunauce Parish, Latvia
Jaunauce Manor is a manor house featuring empire style architecture with twelve buildings arranged around a central structure within a landscaped park. The complex forms an extensive residential ensemble with various functional buildings and representative spaces.
Count Karl Johann Friedrich von Medem acquired the estate in 1804 and initiated substantial modifications. Under his direction, the representative complex took shape and remained a center of regional influence for generations.
The manor displays marble sculptures by the renowned artist Bertel Thorvaldsen, commissioned by the Baltic German nobility who lived here. These artworks reflect the refined taste that wealthy landowners cultivated in this residence.
The manor is open to visitors Friday through Sunday between 11 AM and 3 PM. Visits at other times can be arranged by calling ahead to make a reservation.
The manor served as a school from 1930 to 2009 while retaining its original structure remarkably well. Despite decades of use as an educational building, the structure maintained its characteristic features.
