Lielzalve Manor, Manor house in Zalve Parish, Latvia
Lielzalve Manor is a two-story manor house in the historical region of Selonia, featuring classical architecture with white walls and symmetrical windows. The building stands in Zalve Parish and is now managed by the Sēļu klubs association.
After the collapse of the Livonian Order, the land along the Zalvīte river was granted to William von Effern in 1563. The estate subsequently became an important seat of noble culture in the region.
The manor served as a gathering place for hunting parties where noble families entertained guests from high society during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The surrounding forests were central to this social tradition.
The property has been managed by the Sēļu klubs association since 2019, which organizes regular events and restoration work. Visitors should check in advance as opening times may vary depending on ongoing projects.
In 1900, the estate received telephone installation to allow the Count to announce his hunting visits in advance. This early technology shows how modern the house was for its time.
