Rīgas Skolēnu pils, Educational youth center in central Riga, Latvia
Rīgas Skolēnu pils is an educational center housed in an eclectic-style building on Krišjāņa Barona Street in central Riga. It offers activities for children and young people aged 3 to 25, running programs in dance, music, visual arts, theater, and sports with about 3,800 participants.
The building was constructed in 1880 and originally served as an Orthodox Spiritual Seminary. After World War I, it housed the Latvian Military School from 1919 to 1940 before becoming an educational youth center.
The center brings together young dancers, musicians, and artists who perform in public showcases throughout the year. These groups celebrate both traditional and contemporary creative practices that shape the lives of their participants.
Visitors can watch the various groups perform during regular public showcases throughout the year. The center is conveniently located in the city center and is easy to reach on foot, with facilities designed for different age groups.
Since 2003, the center has organized an annual showcase at the Latvia Ethnographic Open-Air Museum where students present their work and achievements. This tradition connects the city's creative young people with the country's broader cultural heritage in one celebrated event.
