Muzeul zemstvei

Muzeul Zemstvei is a four-building complex in Chișinău with a striking facade featuring bold projections and setbacks from the street. The structure displays mixed architectural styles that reflect the design approaches popular in this region during the 1800s.

The complex was built between 1854 and 1857 and initially housed an orphanage. In 1883 it became the administrative seat of the Bessarabian Zemstvo, a regional governing body.

The building incorporates eclecticism architectural elements, reflecting the diverse influences on Moldovan architectural development during the 19th century.

The site sits along Alexei Shciusev Street and features a garden used for outdoor events and performances. Visitors can explore the grounds and enjoy the green space as a respite from the surrounding city.

The garden behind the building was home to Chișinău's first botanical garden during the 1850s. This green space shows how the site has long been tied to scientific study and nature.
