Zutphen railway station

Zutphen railway station is a modern structure with symmetrical reinforced concrete architecture and a large concrete canopy supported by slender columns. The facility features three tracks with a total of six platform positions.

The original station opened in 1865 but suffered severe damage during World War II. Its reconstruction took place in 1952, with architect H.G.J. Schelling incorporating war rubble into the new concrete construction.

The interior features artistic reliefs by Ben Guntenaar showing abstract travel scenes. The space reflects how the community rebuilt its identity after wartime destruction.

Three transport providers operate services at this station, connecting to several regional cities. The layout is spacious and easy to navigate between the different platforms.

From 1878 onward, this became the first Dutch station where passengers could travel in five different directions without passing through another station. This rare configuration made it an important transport hub.
