Pilgrim Fathers Church, Gothic church in Delfshaven, Netherlands.
The Pilgrim Fathers Church is a late Gothic church building in Delfshaven with a distinctive octagonal wooden tower and white plastered arches dividing the interior. Stained glass windows along the walls depict biblical scenes and cast colored light throughout the nave.
The building was first constructed in 1417 as a chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony, before eventually serving a Protestant congregation. It underwent major changes in 1761 when its structure was heightened and a bell-shaped gable was added.
The church contains a 44-bell carillon and displays memorial plaques naming Protestant ministers who served here over the centuries. These records offer visitors insight into the spiritual leadership that shaped the community through different periods.
The church is located in the historic Delfshaven district and can be easily visited throughout the week. Regular services, cultural events, and exhibitions are held here, so it helps to check opening times before visiting.
Inside the church rests an original bell cast in 1464 by master craftsman J.W. Hoerken that developed a crack after centuries of use. This damaged bell is now preserved as a silent witness to the passage of time and can be viewed by visitors.
