Mirliton Theater, Entertainment venue in Utrecht, Netherlands
Mirliton Theater was a theater venue in Utrecht with around 50 seats, a low stage, and a café-like layout featuring tables and an original bar. The space was equipped with modern technology including a 1972 Bechstein acoustic piano, video projection, and stage lighting.
The theater opened in 1973 inside the Hoog Catharijne shopping center and operated there for over four decades. It closed in 2017 after more than 40 years of continuous programming.
The space served as a gathering place for Utrecht's local artists and performers who regularly appeared on its small stage. Visitors could enjoy entertainment in a relaxed café-style setting that felt informal and welcoming.
The venue was located inside a large shopping center, offering easy access and proximity to other shops and services. Visitors had free internet access available and could find all necessary facilities on-site.
The theater underwent a complete renovation in 2012 by owner Corio to restore its original 1970s interior design. This restoration preserved its authentic character just before the final closure.
