Ronde Lutherse Kerk, Lutheran church building on Singel canal, Amsterdam, Netherlands.
The Ronde Lutherse Kerk is a barrel-vaulted church with baroque architecture and a distinctive copper dome rising above the Singel canal. The structure features classical proportions with a side aisle design toward the rear and now functions as a concert hall within an adjacent hotel.
The church was designed in 1668 by Adriaan Dortsman and reflected the needs of Amsterdam's Lutheran community. Severe damage in 1822 led to comprehensive reconstruction completed in 1826.
The building transitioned from serving the Lutheran congregation to hosting concerts and cultural events within a connected hotel complex. Visitors today experience the space as a performance venue where the classical interior design creates an intimate setting for music.
Access to the building is managed through an underground tunnel connected to the adjacent Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel, so visitors must arrange tours with hotel staff. Plan ahead and contact the hotel to schedule your visit, as access is not freely available.
The copper dome sustained fire damage in 1993, prompting restoration work that preserved its baroque character. This restoration effort highlighted the commitment to maintaining Dortsman's original vision.
