Keizersveerbrug, Truss road bridge in Geertruidenberg and Werkendam, Netherlands.

The Keizersveerbrug is a steel truss bridge spanning about 310 meters across the Bergsche Maas river with four traffic lanes and separate cycling paths on both sides. The structure connects Geertruidenberg and Werkendam and serves as a key route for through traffic between regions.

The first bridge at this location opened in 1931 but was destroyed during World War II. After being rebuilt in the postwar years, it was replaced in 1978 with the current steel structure.

The bridge takes its name from the historic Keizersveer ferry crossing that once transported travelers across the river. Today this name recalls a former way of connecting the two banks that the modern structure has replaced.

When crossing on foot or by bicycle, you will find separate paths that are clearly divided from car traffic. The bridge connects two provinces as part of a busy motorway route, so expect significant traffic flow especially during rush hours.

A modernization project that began in 2024 will replace this structure with new spans and add enhanced facilities for pedestrians and cyclists. This update reflects how the region is adapting aging transportation infrastructure for contemporary needs.
