De Museumfabriek, Cultural history museum in Roombeek, Enschede, Netherlands.
De Museumfabriek is a museum in Enschede, housed in a former textile factory that has been expanded with a modern wing. Across several floors, it presents collections on natural history, agriculture, and the industrial past of the Twente region.
The building started as the Jannink textile factory in 1810 and kept running until production stopped in 1967. It was then gradually converted into a cultural space and opened to the public as a museum in 1975.
De Museumfabriek tells the story of the textile industry through machines, tools, and personal accounts left behind by workers from the region. Walking through the old factory halls gives a clear sense of what daily working life looked like in this part of the Netherlands.
A visit easily takes several hours, especially if you plan to join a workshop or a guided tour. There is a cafe on site where you can take a break during your visit.
On the museum grounds stands a complete farmhouse from the Twente region, dating to the 19th century. Buildings like this have largely disappeared elsewhere, but here it can still be seen in its original form.
