Huis Baak

Huis Baak is a mansion located in Bronckhorst municipality and displays classical Dutch architecture. The main entrance is framed by Doric pilasters and features a coat of arms with lions, representing the heraldry of Baak.

The building was first documented in 1294 as property owned by the Counts of Gelre. It underwent major transformation between 1738 and 1739, with further expansions added in 1878.

The house displays a blend of building styles that become visible as you explore its rooms. The staircases, doors, and window designs carry marks from the Louis XIV period, giving the interior an elegant character.

The mansion typically opens during specific heritage events, particularly around the annual Open Monumentendag celebration in the Bronckhorst area. Plan your visit around these open days if you want to see the interior.

In 1869, a wooden veranda was added to the west side of the north wing, transforming the original L-shaped structure into a U-shaped layout. This addition fundamentally changed the building's outer silhouette and overall appearance.
