Keverberg Castle, Medieval castle in Kessel, Netherlands
Keverberg is a castle in the Dutch municipality of Kessel with an oval core whose walls feature arches and crenellations. The site sits on a sand ridge and overlooks the Meuse river in this region.
The castle was destroyed during the German retreat in 1944 and fell into ruins. Restoration efforts did not begin until 2014, nearly 70 years later.
The site served as a place for a religious community who used the building as a school and residence for many years. The sisters shaped daily life there during their time at the location.
Visitors can explore the restored sections which have become accessible since the renovation work. The location offers good paths for walking through the grounds with views of the surrounding landscape.
The original entrance was positioned between two towers on the north side but was later moved to a new gate building facing east. This change shows how the structure was functionally adapted over time.
