Frederik Hendrikplantsoen, Public park in Amsterdam West, Netherlands.
Frederik Hendrikplantsoen is a public park in Amsterdam West with old trees, modern play structures, and artistic installations throughout. The space features different elements that make it varied and interesting for visitors of all ages.
The area was originally a sawmill district called Molenbuurt in the 17th century before it became a public park in 1886. This transformation was part of the city's plan to expand Amsterdam with new green spaces.
The park displays the sculpture group De Stam and the 1965 artwork Pipe Dream by Cephas Stauthamer. These pieces shape how the space looks and invite visitors to discover contemporary Dutch art in an outdoor setting.
The park has three play towers designed for different age groups, offering climbing, hammocks, trampolines, and elevated nets. Visitors can easily explore the grounds, and all areas are accessible for families with children of various ages.
The metal poles of the play structures feature animal icons that reference the historical sawmill activities that once shaped this neighborhood. These details connect the play equipment subtly to the industrial past of the place.
