Sibberhuuske, Castle farm in Sibbe, Netherlands
Sibberhuuske is a castle farm featuring a sturdy corner tower from the 16th century with living quarters built in Maasland Renaissance style using limestone and brick. The building sits within its original moat setting and overlooks the surrounding countryside.
First documented in 1381 as a feudal holding from Oud-Valkenburg, the property functioned as an administrative center for the lords of Ghoor during the 15th century. This position gave it importance in the local governance structure of that era.
The interior shows 17th-century character with a fireplace featuring carved figures from 1604. These elements reflect local craftsmanship traditions in stone and wood.
The property now operates as a bed and breakfast with two separate apartments available for guests. Its location provides direct access to the cave attractions and walking routes around Valkenburg.
A major fire in 1935 severely damaged the farm structures on the property. The moat on the southwest side was later reduced in size during the 1940s to allow for road expansion through the area.
