Vlietland is a recreation area and lake spanning about 300 hectares between Leidschendam and Leiden. Its extensive water surfaces are surrounded by developing natural landscapes and recreational facilities.
The area transformed from a simple water body into a comprehensive recreation destination through the Dutch Lake Residence development that began in January 2020. This initiative fundamentally shaped how the place looks and functions today.
This spot brings together residents from several nearby towns who come for water sports, walking trails, and outdoor pursuits year-round. You will see people using it daily to relax, exercise, or simply stroll by the water.
You can reach the area via Rietpolderweg, with free parking at Kniplaan's south side and the northern Pijlkruid lot. The access is straightforward and facilities are well set up for different activities.
The waters are tested for safety every two weeks during summer months to protect swimmers. Certain areas also permit activities that are uncommon in many other places.
