Fleerde, Residential complex in Bijlmermeer, Amsterdam, Netherlands
Fleerde is a residential complex in Bijlmermeer with a distinctive front facade featuring glass balconies and colored panels. The structure combines apartments with ground-level maisonettes arranged in a closed building block, currently housing around thirty group homes with shared facilities.
The structure was built in 1970 as a honeycomb flat design, a post-war housing type. After partial demolition in 1998, only the front section was restored and redesigned between 2002 and 2004.
The building reflects a turning point in the Bijlmermeer's development, when the district shifted away from pure high-rise housing toward more varied residential forms. This change is visible in how the structure sits alongside lower homes, creating a more balanced neighborhood fabric.
The complex is structured as an enclosed residential block and easily visible from outside, with its distinctive colored entrance area serving as a clear landmark. The surrounding area is walkable and well connected to the rest of the neighborhood through green spaces.
The rooftop serves dual purpose as both parking and shared terrace space, an unexpected combination that brings together residents from the complex and the surrounding three-story single-family homes into a shared community space.
