Zijpersluis

Zijpersluis is a small settlement in Schagen situated where the Grote Sloot and Noordhollandsch Kanaal meet. The landscape consists of farmland, water channels, and scattered rural buildings that define this quiet corner of the Dutch countryside.

The area developed after the construction of Jacob Claesse Sluis in 1566, when farms began to establish themselves around the water management structures. These settlements played an important role in managing and controlling local water systems in the region.

The farm 't Huis Vroegh, constructed in 1670, represents the earliest agricultural establishment in the Zijpe region, demonstrating traditional Dutch farming methods.

To explore the area, it is helpful to use walking routes through the surrounding country roads, as direct access is limited. A car is practical for covering longer distances and reaching the settlement from main roads like the N9.

A memorial at the location remembers people who died during a World War II firing squad execution. This quiet monument tells the story of tragic events that took place in this peaceful agricultural area.
