Apollohal, Modernist gymnasium in Amsterdam-Zuid, Netherlands.
The Apollohal is a modern sports building with large halls and wooden floors that can be arranged flexibly. Its various spaces allow basketball, volleyball, badminton, football, handball, and korfball to take place under one roof.
The building was created in 1934 under architect Albert Boeken with help from W. Zweedijk. It started as a tennis hall and later evolved into a multipurpose sports center for many different activities.
This protected monument reflects how the Dutch developed modern sports facilities in the 1930s. Today basketball players and other athletes use the halls for training and competition, giving it an active role in local sports life.
The location in Amsterdam-Zuid is easily reached by public transportation. Visitors should know that different areas are used for different sports at different times, so checking ahead about what activities are happening is a good idea.
The building was originally a tennis hall before it grew into a large sports complex. This surprising change shows how sports facilities adapt over time to meet new needs.
