Sint Nicolaaskerk, Nieuwegein, Gothic Revival church in Jutphaas, Netherlands
Sint Nicolaaskerk is a Gothic Revival church in Nieuwegein with three aisles arranged around a central crossing. The building features a tall tower divided into three levels and a polygonal staircase tower on its south side.
The church was built between 1874 and 1875 under architect Wilhelm Victor Alfred Tepe. Archbishop Schaepman laid the foundation stone on May 11, 1874.
The interior displays works by various regional artists and features an organ facade that originally came from a chapel in Amsterdam. Walking through the space, you can see how these artistic pieces shape the character of the room.
The church is easily reached on foot or by bicycle from the town center of Nieuwegein. Visiting hours and service times offer flexibility for different schedules, so checking ahead ensures you find it open.
The church tower houses an electric clock mechanism from 1888 and bells cast in 1887, both fine examples of late 19th-century craftsmanship. These mechanical systems remain functional and offer visitors a glimpse into how timekeeping once worked in the building.
