Zonnehuis, Cultural center in Tuindorp Oostzaan, Netherlands.
Zonnehuis is a T-shaped building with characteristic brick architecture in the Amsterdam School style, featuring decorative stonework and four prominent pilasters on its facade. The main hall inside accommodates around 600 people for theater, music, and other events.
Built in 1932 by architect Jo Mulder, the building was created as a gathering place for shipyard workers from the nearby construction site. It was later acquired and restored by Stadsherstel Amsterdam to serve future generations.
The name 'Zonnehuis' means 'House of the Sun' and reflects the bright, welcoming philosophy of the space. Visitors find a place where the community gathers for performances, concerts, and events that shape local cultural life.
The venue offers a main hall with good sightlines and acoustics suitable for different types of performances and gatherings. Visitors will find the location easily accessible and parking available on the surrounding streets.
Stone sculptures at the back of the building show a family scene with parents and children, symbolizing community bonds. These artworks are easy to miss but tell much about the values the building was meant to embody.
