Persaunet leir, Kulturgut in Norwegen
Persaunet leir is a military heritage site in Trondheim with buildings and structures dating back to World War II. The compound includes old houses, bunkers, and storage facilities that stand as remnants of its time as a submarine base.
The site was built in 1943 by German forces as a base for the 13th Submarine Fleet, which commanded around 55 boats. After the war, the Norwegian Navy took control and the area eventually transformed into a residential neighborhood.
The site holds memories of its military past that continue to shape how locals view the area today. The preserved structures serve as reminders of a time when the compound was central to the community's daily rhythms.
The site is located in the northeast part of Trondheim near Tyholt and is accessible on foot. Visitors should treat the preserved structures with respect and be aware that some areas may have limited access due to ongoing preservation work.
The original U-shaped road system built for military operations in 1943 still underlies the present-day street layout of the residential area. Aerial photographs from 1947 clearly show this pattern, which remains embedded in the neighborhood's design.
