Daunne Devi Temple

The Daunne Devi Temple sits at an elevation of 1033 meters and is located on the route between Bardaghat and Dumkibas in Nepal. At this site, a shrine to goddess Durga and a Shivalaya stand side by side.

Archaeological excavations near the temple in 1975 brought three inscriptions to light, while a survey in 1996 uncovered ancient coins in the region. These findings point to a long human presence at this location.

The temple is dedicated to the worship of goddess Durga and draws thousands of pilgrims during the month of Shrawan and festivals like Dashain. The veneration here blends Hindu and Buddhist traditions together.

The temple is reachable via a short walk from the East-West Highway, with the surrounding forest offering natural shade during the climb. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes and allow enough time for the walk.

Local mythology connects this hilltop to the meditation practices of the sage Valmiki and the veneration of Mayadevi, mother of Sakyamuni Buddha. This intertwining of Hindu and Buddhist beliefs makes the place particularly meaningful.
