Gmina Bełchatów, Rural municipality in Bełchatów County, central Poland.
Gmina Bełchatów is a rural municipality in Bełchatów County, Łódź Voivodeship, in central Poland. It consists of farmland, patches of forest, and a number of small villages spread around the edges of the town of Bełchatów.
The municipality took its current form during Poland's administrative reform of 1999, which reorganized the entire country into voivodeships, counties, and communes. Before that, the area had been part of a different administrative structure rooted in the communist-era system.
The municipality wraps around the town of Bełchatów without including it, which is a common pattern in Polish local government. Village life here follows agricultural seasons, and local harvest gatherings are a visible part of how communities stay connected.
The villages that make up the municipality are connected by local roads that lead toward the town of Bełchatów, where most services are found. Having your own vehicle makes it much easier to move between the scattered settlements.
Although the municipality completely surrounds the town of Bełchatów, it has no administrative authority over the town itself, which is a separate urban commune. This creates a situation where two entirely different local governments share the same geographic area, which often surprises first-time visitors.
