Legionowo, Urban municipality in Masovian Voivodeship, Poland
Legionowo is a town in central Poland, positioned northeast of the national capital in the Masovian region. The settlement sits at the edge of the Zegrze Reservoir, surrounded by forests and parks that connect residential areas with the waterfront.
The settlement began to grow after 1877 around a new railway station linking the area with the capital. After World War I, the place was renamed to honor the Polish Legions that fought for independence in the early twentieth century.
The Arena Legionowo serves as a central venue for sports competitions, hosting both football matches and women's volleyball tournaments throughout the year.
Regional trains run regularly between the town and the Polish capital, covering the route in about half an hour. The railway station is centrally located within the town, making it easy to reach both residential areas and the reservoir waterfront.
Several red brick barracks built during the Russian imperial period still stand within the town, recalling a time when this part of Poland was under foreign military control. These structures are among the few remaining examples of early twentieth-century military architecture in the region.
