Klasztor Cysterek w Żarnowcu

Kloster Zarnowitz is a Cistercian monastery in Żarnowiec featuring a Gothic church with a rectangular layout and preserved cloister buildings constructed using traditional methods of the order. The complex also includes service buildings and a treasury holding religious objects and artifacts.

Founded in 1245 by Cistercians from Oliwa Abbey, the monastery received official approval from Prince Mestwin II in 1279 and papal protection. This combination of regional and papal backing helped secure its establishment in the area.

The monastery served as a center for learning with a girls' school that opened in 1750, helping to keep Polish traditions alive. The school buildings remain part of the complex and shaped how the community developed over time.

The monastery complex is located at ul. Klasztorna 1 in Żarnowiec and welcomes visitors to explore the church, monastery buildings, and treasury. The site is compact and easy to navigate on foot, with religious objects well displayed for viewing.

The monastery grounds are marked by eleven stone boundary markers from 1342 that defined the property limits established under Grand Master Ludolf von König during the Teutonic Knights period. These stones remain visible today and show the historical territorial divisions.
