Otmuchów Lake, Reservoir in Gmina Otmuchów, Poland
Otmuchów Lake is a reservoir in the municipality of Otmuchów in southwestern Poland that collects water from the catchment area of the Nysa Kłodzka river. The water surface covers roughly 21 square kilometers and reaches a depth of approximately 18 meters at its deepest point.
Work began in 1928 and was completed in 1933 when both the reservoir and its hydroelectric power plant were inaugurated. This construction project was part of a larger effort for flood control and power generation in Lower Silesia during the interwar period.
The name comes from the nearby town of Otmuchów and recalls the old Silesian settlement history of the region. Anglers still use the lake regularly and follow local customs when catching zander and other species.
Access is available through designated areas along the shoreline and parking spots can be found near several entry points. The best time to visit is during spring and summer when the weather is warm enough for relaxing by the water.
The eastern side hosts wide reed beds and willow thickets where grey herons and marsh harriers nest. This zone also serves as a resting place for migratory bird species on their journey between northern and southern regions.
